Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kenyon scores third win, remains undefeated

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Kenyon College senior Sadie Gould assisted on one goal, scored a goal of her own and lifted the Owls women's soccer team to a Sunday afternoon 3-0 victory against the visiting Gothic Knights from New Jersey City University.

The win was the Owls' third in four games and kept them undefeated with an overall 3-0-1 record. On the other side of the field, New Jersey City's record slipped to 1-3-0.

Kenyon, which dominated possession throughout the game, notched its first goal in the 37th minute. From midfield, Gould lofted a lead pass to a streaking Julianna Granetzke, who zipped past two defenders. As she approached the goalkeeper, she fired her shot into the lower right corner of the Gothic Knights' net.

The score remained 1-0 in Kenyon's favor for the next 21 minutes. In the 58th minute, Gould struck again. Following a New Jersey City throw-in, Gould gained control about eight yards outside of the box. From there, she let it rip and found the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.

In the 72 second minute, junior Morgan Baker tacked on a Kenyon insurance goal. Baker worked hard for the goal, first intercepting an attempted clearing pass in the box and then fighting off two defenders. From the right side of the box, she broke free and tucked her shot inside the near post, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead and securing the win.

Baker's goal and Granetzke's goal were both their second of the season, tying them with Gould for the team lead.

Kenyon outshot New Jersey City 19-4 and goalkeeper Lilly Lucas needed to make just one save to nail down the shutout victory.
