Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls draw Panthers to remain undefeated

GAMBIER, Ohio – Offense was at a premium Saturday afternoon, as the Kenyon College women's soccer team drew 0-0 against the visiting Hanover College Panthers.

First-year Ariel Kite started in net for the Owls, marking the first complete game of her young career. Kite also started in the team's last matchup against Heidelburg and saw second-half action at Alma.

Kite was tested early, as just twelve seconds into the game Hanover forward Beth Cook received a nice touch pass, cut back to the top middle of the box, and rocketed a shot to the low left corner of the net, which Kite was able to dive in front of nicely.

Both teams struggled offensively for the first half, but the Owls had a few promising chances from Hailey Moss in the 8th minute, Eun Hae Lillig in the 16th minute, and Victoria Hannaford in the 20th. Hanover held a decisive advantage in shots 11-3 and corner kicks 3-2.

Panthers keeper Maggie Hinegardner did not have to make any saves in the first half, while Kite made two.

After halftime, there was a swing in offensive momentum from both teams, each trading several shots within the half's first few minutes. A great Kenyon chance early in the half came off of a nice overhead ball from Caia Carlesimo to Moss, who drove to the net and made a sliding pass to Lillig, just missing the mark on a good contact shot as the ball dribbled to the Panthers keeper.

A cross from Carlesimo to Moss's charging header was also stopped by Hinegardner in the game's 87th minute, marking the last scoring chance for the Owls.

As the second half ended, neither team was able to find the back of the net, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Kenyon controlled the possession battle 53%-47%, with Hanover possessing the ball more in the offensive zone, 26% to Kenyon's 22%. Both goalies played well down the stretch and kept their teams in the match, with Kite making six saves and Hinegardner making three.

Offensively, the Panthers outshot the Owls 22-7 for the game, with the Owls leading in corner kicks 5-3. Hanover's Cook led the way with a game-high eight shots, while Kenyon's co-leaders Moss and Lillig each had two.

The draw, the team's second in a row, moves the season record to 3-0-3, remaining unbeaten.

The Kenyon women's soccer team will search for its fourth win of the season on Tuesday, making the short trip to Columbus to play the Capital University Comets at 7:00 p.m.
