Owls shut out in home opener

GAMBIER, Ohio – The 2023 home debut for new men's soccer head coach Travis Wall was spoiled by the No.23-ranked Blue Streaks of John Carroll University, who bested the Owls 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Streaks opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Jaden Wright headed a ball off a long, high cross from Hayden Haffner over the challenging Owls' goalkeeper.

For the rest of the first half, Kenyon held John Carroll scoreless, despite being outshot 8-5 and trailing in corner kicks by a margin of 6-2.

After the half, the Blue Streaks wasted no time in expanding their lead, as Haffner beat his defender in close quarters and snuck a goal in the bottom left corner of the net in the 46th minute for his third point of the game.

Eleven minutes later, Logan Penton threaded a pass through the box to a crashing Nicholas Graeca, beating the goalkeeper and making it 3-0 Blue Streaks.

Finally, in the game's 71st minute, Jack Foht rocketed a shot from the top of the box that lined into the bottom right of the Owls' net.

The Blue Streaks outshot the Owls 8-7 for the game, and Jack Pedreschi had 4 saves in goal for Kenyon.

The loss moves Kenyon to 0-2 to start the 2023 season, and it will look for its first win next Friday as it hosts the Hanover College Panthers.
