Fadely, Caymaz register top times against RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team won four events Saturday and turned in more than a handful of season-best times, but it could not overcome the NCAA Division I Miami (OH) University RedHawks, who cruised to a 210-90 victory at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Kenyon's top performer of the afternoon was junior Jennah Fadely, who swept the breaststroke events. In the 100-yard version, she posted a time of 1:01.13, which was the top time in the race and also her season-best. In the 200-yard version, Fadely turned in a winning time of 2:15.22, which was about five seconds better than her previous season-best time and checks in as the third-best time this season among all NCAA Division III swimmers.

Kenyon's two other event wins came from first-years Bengisu Caymaz and Sofia Giordano. Caymaz got through the 500-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 4:50.39. That was not only a season-best, but the best in NCAA Division III this season. Giordano led all swimmers in the 200-yard butterfly, cranking out a time of 2:03.65, which was another season-best.

Ceyda Yazici tacked on a runner-up finish for the Owls in the 400-yard individual medley, as she touched in 4:25.21.

Third-place showing were registered by Caymaz, Gabrielle Wei and Celia Ford. Caymaz, in addition to her win in the 500, finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.75, just missing her season-best of 1:49.65. Wei followed up Fadely in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking bronze with a season-best time of 1:02.95. Ford rounded out Kenyon's top-three swims with a 56.92 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Owls now have some time away from competition until they host Case Western Reserve University on February 3, in what will be their last dual meet of the season.
