GAMBIER, Ohio -- On Friday night, the Kenyon College women's tennis team took care of business on its home courts against the Kalamazoo College Hornets. The Owls ousted the Hornets 8-1 and won every match that was played to completion, evening their season dual record at 1-1.
No. 19-ranked Kenyon came out hot in doubles, posting a trifecta of 8-2 decisions to take an early 3-0 edge in the dual. All three matches finished in close succession, but the No. 3 duo of Ana Brand and Madeline Chappars was first, followed by Eleni Lazaridou and Shadia Amado Aguad at No. 1 and Allaire Berl and Eleni Dakos in the second spot.
The Owls maintained momentum into singles action, picking up five straight-set victories. Amado Aguad cruised to a commanding 6-0, 6-0 sweep to put another point on the board. Her win was the only flawless mark of the evening, but Kenyon outscored Kalamazoo 60-11 in the five matches that played out all the way.
Dakos and Lazaridou, who have matching first names, clinched matching winning scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Dakos did her damage in the No. 3 spot, while Lazaridou stayed unbeaten in two tries in the top position.
First-years Brand and Chappars rounded out the Kenyon winners. Brand bested her opponent 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 match, while Chappars came out on top in a tough 6-3, 6-4 battle at No. 6.
Kalamazoo's lone point came in the No. 2 match, where Berl conceded a point after having to retire down 5-4.
After enjoying a win on the indoor courts at their own Jasper Tennis Center, Kenyon's next stretch of contests could not be much further from home. The Owls fly west to California for the spring break trip, where they will open a stretch of five duals against No. 28 Chapman University on Tuesday, March 5.
