Owls sweep singles en route to an 8-1 win

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team put together a convincing win at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday. Playing on the No. 26-ranked Eagles' home courts, the Owls swept all singles results and rolled to an 8-1 team triumph.

Kenyon, ranked at No. 18, coasted in four of the six singles wins. At No. 1, sophomore Eleni Lazaridou whipped up a 6-1, 6-0 win against Amanda Hagino, while at No. 2, sophomore Allaire Berl posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hana Kimmey. Senior Eleni Dakos won at No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-4 count over Emily Beckner and, at No. 5, first-year Ana Brand took care of Linda Dimitroff 6-2, 6-3.

Kenyon's other two singles wins were a bit more difficult to come by. At No. 3, Shadia Amado Aguad held off Addison Felts 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and, at No. 6, a third set tie-breaker was needed for junior Lalasa Nagireddy to defeat Riley Smith 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.

In doubles, the only match Kenyon dropped was at No. 1. Dakos and Amado Aguad quickly evened out that loss with an 8-5 win at No. 2, while Brand and Nagireddy put Kenyon ahead on the scoreboard, 2-1, by defeating Smith and Jacey Copeland, 8-5, in the No. 3 doubles match.

The Owls, now owners of a 3-4 record, will remain on the Mary Washington campus Sunday for an 11 a.m. neutral-site match against No. 20-ranked Tufts University.
