Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nationally-ranked Spartans shut out Owls

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team had the unenviable task of opening the 2024 season on the road Friday night against the No. 16-ranked Case Western Reserve University Spartans, who proved their prowess during a 5-0 win over the visiting Owls.

One season ago, Case posted a 12-2-4 overall record and made it to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

This year's Spartans team didn't seem to lose a step, as it out-shot Kenyon in the season opener, 33-3, and blitzed the Owls with four goals in the game's first 21 minutes.

Overall, the Spartans had five different goal scorers with the first being Jamie Goldfarb, who netted the game's first goal in the 11th minute. Alexis Sassower and Kat Tsarouhas tallied goals in the 18th and 20th minutes, respectively. Ceci Dapino then ran the Spartans' lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 21st minute.

Late in the second half, with just six minutes remaining in the game, Molly Shamah scored Case Western Reserve's final goal.

At the other end of the field, Kenyon's three shots came from Sadie Krueger, Holly Byun and Jenna Michel. Krueger's and Michel's were on goal, but saved by Case backstop Maggie Storti.

In goal for the Owls, sophomore Ariel Kite went the duration and made 10 saves.

Kenyon now returns to campus to play its first home contest of the season, a battle with Baldwin Wallace University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
