Owls handed defeat by Division I RedHawks

GAMBIER, Ohio -- In its final home dual meet of the season, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day before jumping into the pool with the RedHawks of Miami (OH) University. The NCAA Division I opponent proved to be too strong to overcome and dealt the Owls a 157-86 defeat.

The two teams competed in 13 events, including two diving events, two swimming relays and nine swimming individual races. Kenyon swimmers came out on top in four swimming events and also logged four runner-up showings.

Gabrielle Wei was the only Kenyon senior to record a win. She did so in the 100-yard breaststroke, an event she finished in 1:01.96. Earlier in the meet, Wei added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, which she completed in 2:04.65.

Junior Molly Haag was Kenyon's sole two-time winner. In her first individual event of the day, she powered through the 200-yard freestyle in a winning time of 1:50.50. Six events later, Haag posted a winning time of 4:53.49 in the 500-yard freestyle. That time was a season-best, topping her previous season-best of 4:55.88.

The Owls' other event win came from Bengisu Caymaz. The sophomore claimed first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle, stopping the clock at 16:46.40.

Senior Celia Ford impressed in the 100-yard freestyle. She was runner-up with both a season- and personal-best time of 51.59. Her previous personal-best was 51.62.

Finally, the Owls' other two runner-up finishes came in the meet-opening and meet-closing relays. In the 200-yard medley relay, Kenyon's best time, which was 1:41.70, came from the quartet of Gwen Eisenbeis, Wei, Ford, and Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Kenyon got a 3:23.92 from the team of Haag, Torrecillas-Jouault, Ford and Sydney Geboy.

In the diving events, sophomore Olive O'Dorisio led the way with a sixth-place finish in the three-meter and first-year Nadia Milovich was seventh in the one-meter. Their respective scores were 277.20 and 253.64.

Wei, Ford, and Geboy joined nine other classmates in celebrating Senior Day. That group included Jennah Fadely, Elsie Groebner, Jordan Herrera, Naomi Kennel, Nikola Kovacova, Lucy Patterson, Grace Ramirez, Erin Reardon, and Sydney Srnka.

Those seniors, and the rest of the team, have another dual meet on tap for tomorrow, when they travel north to face the Case Western Reserve University Spartans beginning at 1 p.m.
