Timothy "Tim" Baker Shutt H'21, an avid supporter of Kenyon athletics and a long-time Kenyon faculty athletics representative, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the age of 75.
Shutt was a professor emeritus of humanities who taught medieval and Renaissance literature and worked at the College for 35 years, from 1986 to 2021. He received many awards over the years, including the Trustee Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1993, and five times was awarded the Senior Cup, presented each year to the community member who has contributed most to the College.
Shutt devoted countless hours serving as public address announcer at Kenyon athletics events, mainly swimming and diving, and football. An All-American swimmer in high school, Shutt became the voice of, not only the Kenyon programs, but of many North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. He served, for several seasons, as an assistant coach for both Kenyon's swimming and diving teams, and was a valuable member of Kenyon's Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
For his service and generosity, Shutt was named Kenyon's 2017 winner of the Burchell H. Rowe award, which honors individuals, who by giving of themselves, made significant contributions to Kenyon College athletics.
