Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Kenyon conquers Wabash for first conference win

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team hit the road for its first competition in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) of the season on Friday night, facing off against Wabash College.

The Owls took care of business as the top flights took care of business in singles and doubles en route to a 6-1 victory over the Little Giants.

The No. 1 duo of Alejandro Gonzalez and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling got back on track after last weekend with a cool 6-1 victory, finishing first out of the three pairs. Eric Zhang and Rishil Kondapaneni continued their success in a 6-2 win, while Jay Kedar Dixit and Josh Finkle wrapped up their 6-4 triumph to give Kenyon the early advantage.

Gonzalez took over No.1 singles duties for the match and was nearly flawless, picking up a 6-1 winner in the first set and commanding a 6-0 victory in the second while finishing first overall.

In the No. 2 flight, Pocasangre Kreling finished second and swept his way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Juozas Cioladis finished third in the No. 3 flight and also won two straight, taking home back to back 6-2 victories to give the Owls a 4-0 advantage through three singles matches.

Zhang's match in the No. 4 flight was met with a little more resistance, but it turned out the same result as the others, as he took home a 6-4 winner in the first set and added another 6-4 victory in the second.

The final two matches of the evening went to third sets, as Kenyon split the results. Rohan Sriram led the charge in the sixth match by taking a 6-2 victory in the first set, but dropped the second 2-6 and then fell in the tiebreaker 10-8.

Dixit's match in the No. 5 slot was the sixth and final match to finish for the night, as the sophomore fell 5-7 in the opening set before firing off a 6-2 result in the second followed by a 10-8 winner in the third, completing the 6-1 win for Kenyon.

Up next, the Owls will remain in Indiana and make the trip to DePauw for a match against the Tigers at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 1.
