GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team tallied a two-for-one on Saturday as the Owls added the first win to both their overall and North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) records this season. The Owls downed DePauw University 6-1, improving to 1-2 overall and 1-0 against conference competition.
Kenyon put together a solid showing up and down the lineup, dominating in doubles before securing five of six singles matches. The Owls won 16 of 19 doubles points played, starting the dual with a 1-0 edge after a 6-1 win at No. 1 and a 6-0 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished, but the Kenyon duo of Shadia Amado Aguad and Clare Hudson led 4-2 when the matchup ended.
The Owls extended their efforts in singles play, winning each of the first five flights in straight sets. Hudson had the most success. The first-year clinched an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match.
After a 7-5 first-set battle, Eleni Lazaridou also added a 6-0 set to sweep the top singles matchup. Lazaridou paired with Hana Nouaime in the top doubles spot as the duo improved to 2-1 this spring. Nouaime, a first-year, fared well in the No. 4 singles spot, winning 6-1, 6-4.
Lalasa Nagireddy posted the team's second-largest margins of victory in singles, posting a pair of 6-2 set wins in the No. 5 spot. The senior also had a stellar doubles showing, teaming up with first-year Maggie Shope to whip up a flawless 6-0 sweep in the No. 3 bout.
Amado Aguad also added a singles sweep, but she had to battle in a pair of closely contested 7-5 sets en route to a win at No. 2. Elizabeth Ackermann rounded out the lineup in her first action this spring, and the first-year fell 6-4, 4-6 0-1 (8-10) in a competitive matchup against DePauw's Briah O'Neal.
After starting the season with three duals in Indiana over the season's first two weekends, the Owls have a break before heading to Orlando, Florida from March 3-12 for their spring break trip.
