Kenyon drops final road trip contest to Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its spring break trip to New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, taking on Rowan University before its return to Gambier.

The Owls fell behind early and never could catch up, as the Profs took the game 14-3.

Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, firing 11 shots on goal. Nola Garand continued to stand tall in net, registering seven saves in the quarter. Charlotte Skelly got Kenyon on the board with 2:10 left in the first, netting her eighth goal of the season, good enough for third on the team.

The Profs proceeded to rip off a 10-0 run in the second and third quarters, keeping the Owls out of the back of the net for the middle two periods. During the run, Garand added seven more saves, but the team was outshot 17-2 for shots on goal and turned the ball over 10 times. After 45 minutes, Rowan commanded a 14-1 advantage.

In the final quarter, the Kenyon defense locked down and did not allow a single goal, while limiting the home team to two shots on goal. The Owls had their best offensive frame of the game, firing three shots on goal while grabbing six ground balls and two ground controls.

Lily Mason broke through just 35 seconds into the fourth for her eighth goal of the season, while Blythe Karras capped off the Kenyon scoring with 2:42 in the contest, her team-leading eleventh goal. Despite the solid finish, the Profs lead was too great, taking the game 14-3.

Garand finished with 16 saves and a .533 save percentage, while Lia Stewart led the team in ground balls (2) and caused turnovers (2).

The Owls will head back to The Field at Benson Bowl on Friday, March 11 at 4:00 pm to take on Hope College.
