WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's tennis team traveled to The College of Wooster for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup against the Fighting Scots on Friday afternoon. The No. 8-ranked Owls bounced back from a tough loss on Wednesday with a commanding 7-0 win, improving to 16-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play with one regular-season NCAC dual remaining.
Though the Owls kept the home team from winning a single match throughout the dual, the Fighting Scots put up a fight in doubles. Seniors Rishil Kondapaneni and Eric Zhang cruised to a 6-0 sweep in the No. 3 doubles bout, but Wooster pushed Kenyon to a pair of 6-4 decisions in the top two slights. Fortunately for the Owls, sophomores Alejandro Gonzalez and Gianluca Bocanegra were up to the task at No. 1, while their classmates Josh Finkle and Jay Kedar Dixit handled business at No. 2.
In singles, Kenyon players held Wooster to three games won or fewer in 11 of the 12 sets played. The toughest test came in the top singles matchup, where Gonzalez got by Anthony VanOyen 7-5, 6-1.
The rest of the Owls lineup had an easier go of it, combining to outscore the Fighting Scots 60 games to nine. At No. 2, first-year Juozas Cioladis won 6-2, 6-2 for his fifth straight singles win. The streak ranks second on the team behind only Kedar Dixit, who won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 for his seventh straight triumph.Â
Rakkan Audeh and Rohan Sriram whipped up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in their singles matches, with Audeh at No. 3 and Sriram at No. 5. Bocanegra rounded out the singles ledger with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the sixth flight.
Before wrapping up the regular season at home against Oberlin College on Wednesday, April 23, the Owls will hop down to Danville, Kentucky, to take on No. 22-ranked Sewanee on Easter Sunday, April 20. The dual, hosted by Centre College, is set to start at 10 a.m.
