SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night, led by senior
Blythe Karras who notched career-highs of six goals and eight points as the Owls dominated the Wittenberg University Tigers, 19-5, in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
Kenyon (6-8, 2-3 NCAC), which kept its postseason hopes alive with the win, wasted no time asserting control, racing to an 8-1 lead after the first quarter and never looking back against the struggling Tigers (4-10, 0-5 NCAC).
The Owls' offensive explosion began early with Mallory Brophy finding the net just 12:08 into the contest, assisted by Karras. That opened the floodgates as Kenyon scored seven consecutive goals before Wittenberg's Hannah Peterson finally answered with 7:18 remaining in the opening frame.
Spencer Kirsch matched her career high with four goals, while Karras not only scored but distributed the ball effectively, recording three assists. The senior midfielder was involved in nearly half of Kenyon's first-quarter scoring, either finding the net herself or setting up teammates.
After building an 8-1 advantage, the Owls continued to press in the second quarter, outscoring Wittenberg 5-1 to take a commanding 13-2 lead into halftime. Karras added two more goals in the period, while Kirsch converted twice more with help from Elena Zuvekas and Delaney Champeau.
The third quarter saw a more balanced effort from both teams, with Lily Mason scoring for Kenyon assisted by Zuvekas. Though Wittenberg's Jarya Hassell managed to get one back, Karras responded with two consecutive goals to maintain the Owls' substantial lead.
In the fourth quarter, Brophy added two more goals to her tally, with one assist from Ella Baxter and the other from Kirsch. Susannah Zimmerman capped the scoring for Kenyon with just 40 seconds remaining.
Kenyon outshot Wittenberg 34-16 overall, putting 25 shots on goal compared to just nine for the Tigers. The Owls also controlled the ground game, collecting 37 ground balls to Wittenberg's 19.
Defensively, Kenyon caused 12 turnovers, while Nola Garand was solid in goal for the Owls, making two saves on 10 shots faced in her 28:02 of action. Meagan Lacombe then stepped in for Garand and stopped three of six shots in her 31:58 of playing time.
The Owls will conclude their 2025 regular season this Saturday with Senior Day at home against Ohio Wesleyan University. That game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
