Women’s tennis waltzes into NCAC final

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team controlled all facets of Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament semifinal match. The host and No. 1-seeded Owls made quick work of the No. 4-seeded Oberlin College Yeowomen and secured a spot in the tournament's championship match.

That championship match will take place Sunday at noon. The Owls will entertain No. 2-seeded Denison University, which defeated No. 3-seeded DePauw University, 4-1, in Saturday's other semifinal match.

The championship match-up will be the fourth consecutive season the two teams have met in the final. Kenyon enters nationally ranked at No. 25 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while Denison enters with a No. 26 rank.

Against Oberlin, the Owls tallied the doubles team point with victories in the No. 3 match and the No. 1 match. At No. 3, Ana Brand and Lalasa Nagireddy finished first with a 6-0 victory against Rachel Allen and Olivia Wollner. Moments later, Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime posted a 6-1 win over Anna Pastore and Hannah Soong.

Brand continued her speedy pace in solo play, racking up Kenyon's first singles point and second team point with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Allen. Clare Hudson moved the team score to 3-0 by defeating Eva Lopez, 6-3, 6-0 and then Lazaridou clinched the Kenyon team win by topping Pastore, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match.

Hudson's victory moved her personal record to 17-6, which is the high win total among her teammates. Brand moved to 10-6, while Lazaridou carries the team's best winning percentage with a 13-2 singles record.

The winner of Sunday's championship match gains the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
