Owls sit second after first day of NCAC meet

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- With just three events on Wednesday's schedule, the Kenyon College Owls scored 183 team points and landed in second place to close out what was the first-day of the four-day 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championship.

Defending conference champion and host of the championship meet, Denison University, swept all three of Wednesday's events and sits in first place with 234 team points. Wabash College moved into third with 178 points, DePauw University was fourth with 160, and Oberlin College was fifth with 133 points in the nine-team field.

The three-meter diving competition was contested first and Kenyon first-year Chase Smith moved up from a third-place showing in the prelims to a second-place showing in the finals. He was awarded 497.15 points, trailing only the 516.20 points collected by winner Nick Fogle of Denison. Kenyon's other participant, sophomore James Lackner, claimed fifth place with a score of 435.50.

In relay competition, the Owls took the runner-up spot in the 200-yard medley. Kenyon's lineup included senior Djordje Dragojlovic paired with juniors Peter Dunson, Noel Tumbasz, and Roman Savage. That foursome stopped the clock at 1:27.33, only to be edged by Denison's team that set a new conference record time of 1:26.68.

Wednesday's final event was the 800-yard freestyle relay and, again, Denison posted a winning and NCAC record time of 6:27.16. Kenyon followed up with a second-place time of 6:38.36. Combining to post that output were seniors Ethan Manske and Teo Jaworski, Savage, and first-year Kristof Szappanos.

The Owls, as well as the rest of the field, will return to action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. for day-two preliminary heats and then again at 6 p.m. for final heats.
