Owls share top spot in NCAC’s first day

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Just two events were contested Wednesday, the opening day of the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The Kenyon College team won one of those events, placed second in the other, and finished the day in a tie for first place.

The Owls opened with a win in the 200-yard medley relay and ended with a runner-up showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Denison University, the host of the championship event, was runner-up in the medley relay and winner of the freestyle relay. That left the teams tied atop the day-one standings with 132 points apiece. DePauw University, which took third place in both events, also sits third in the team standings with 120 points.

Kenyon's winning 200-yard medley relay team included senior Gwen Eisenbeis, junior Kate Bogan, sophomore Kelsey Van Eldik, and first-year Nora Kortuem. They clocked in at 1:40.29, narrowly missing the conference record of 1:40.16 and setting a new season best for the team. The second-place squad from Denison clocked in at 1:40.72.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Denison's quartet whipped up a winning time of 7:19.14, while Kenyon finished in 7:23.14. That Owls relay included seniors Molly Haag and Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault, sophomore Nora Lee Brown, and first-year Deniz Guvenc

The Owls, as well as the rest of the field, will return to action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. for day-two preliminary heats and then again at 6 p.m. for final heats.
