Owls pop Pomona-Pitzer in 2-0 win

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team continued a strong start to the season, blowing by Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in a dominant two-nil victory on Friday evening. The Owls have run out to a 4-0-0 start to the season, their best since 2022. 

The Owls played a physical match against the Sagehens, which led to the first goal in a battle in the box. A bouncing ball in the box off a Moustapha Gassama eventually found its way off a few heads and toward Jack Commandeur. Commandeur then went on to bury the ball into the back of the net off a perfectly timed volley to reward the Owls with a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute of the match. 

Coming out of the half, physical play continued with three cards drawn in total between the two sides. Goal two for Kenyon started from a beautiful throw-in from Grant Blake, finding the head of junior back Kevin Farina, who directed to the feet of Lucas de Alarcon for his third finish of the season. 

The night could not be completed without mentioning Matt Kayser between the posts for the Owls. The sophomore keeper was stellar making four saves and turning in his third clean sheet of the year on a gem of a night. 

Another test from the SCIAC awaits for the Owls in Gambier on Sunday, September 13 as they play Occidental College at 11:00 a.m.
