Entering her sixth season, Jess Good has her squad coming off what was one of the best seasons in program history. That 2022 campaign included team records for wins in a season (16) and consecutive victories (14), NCAC regular-season and tournament titles, and a win against Rhodes College in the NCAA Division III Tournament. At the end of the season, Good was voted the NCAC Coach of the Year. Her players won conference awards as the top offensive and top defensive players of the year, as well as the top newcomer of the year. Junior Caroline O'Neil was named an IWLCA All-American and was one of three to be named to the IWLCA All-Region Team.
Taking two pandemic-shortened seasons (2020, 2021) into consideration, Good now enters the 2023 schedule with an overall Kenyon coaching record of 45-17.
Three seasons ago in 2019, Kenyon went 13-5 and qualified for the NCAC Tournament for the first time since 2013. Along the way, Kenyon won a program-record 12 straight games (a mark since broken by the 2022 team) and started the conference schedule 6-0 for the first time in program history. Good coached Cassie Hudson-Heck to the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year honor while seeing four others earn All-NCAC accolades.
In 2018, she guided Kenyon to an 11-5 overall mark. It was the most wins by a first-year coach in Kenyon women's lacrosse history. Good helped mentor All-NCAC First Team selections Cassie Hudson-Heck and Maggie Grabowksi, and saw three more student-athletes make the all-conference team, as well.
Hired in July of 2017, she came to Kenyon via NCAA Division I Colgate University, where she served for one season as an assistant coach and helped guide the Raiders to a 6-9 overall record and a 3-6 mark within Patriot League play. She worked primarily as the assistant offensive coordinator and devoted most of her time to individual skill development, recruiting and scouting.
Prior to her work at Colgate, Good jumped into the coaching profession in 2014 and spent two years as a graduate assistant at NCAA Division II Edinboro University. Following that, she moved on to NCAA Division I University of Vermont. She spent one season there, working as an assistant with her focus on the attack, midfield and draw specialists.
Good grew up in nearby Wooster, Ohio. She played lacrosse at Wooster High School before moving on to Gannon University, where the Golden Knights went a combined 46-26-1 and made the playoffs in each of her four seasons of play. She started 71 games at Gannon and racked up career numbers that included 182 goals, 103 assists and 285 points. She was a three-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) all-region honoree and was named a 2012 IWLCA All-American.
She graduated from Gannon in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management and marketing. While working at Edinboro, she earned a master's degree in communication studies.
She is married to Ian Good, the current head coach for the Owls football team. They reside in Mount Vernon with their son, Finn.
