Promoted to an Assistant Director of Athletics position prior to the 2021-22 academic year, Emily Heithaus has long been the face of Kenyon College fitness, recreation and wellness.

Heithaus first started work at Kenyon in 1999, serving as the assistant cross country and track and field coach. She remained in that role until 2001, when she took on duties as the Athletics Department’s Fitness Coordinator. As her work expanded, Heithaus was named Coordinator for Lifetime Fitness and Physical Education in 2005, a title she kept until her 2021 promotion to Assistant Director of Athletics for Fitness and Recreation.

Over the years, Heithaus has developed and implemented health and fitness programming for Kenyon students and employees. Her duties also encompass evaluation of wellness programming, intramural sports and special events. Additionally, Heithaus supervises about a dozen Kenyon Physical Education and Health Studies (PEHS) instructors and cultivates course and curriculum development for the Physical Education, Health and Sport Studies department.

She belongs to multiple health and fitness organizations, owns numerous health, safety and nutrition certifications, and has given various presentations, not only at Kenyon, but across the state of Ohio. She’s taught seven different classes at Kenyon and one at The Ohio State University, where she earned her master’s degree in exercise physiology.

Prior to Ohio State, Heithaus graduated from Muskingum University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Following Ohio State, she earned her doctorate in health education from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.
