The 2025 season is Ian Good's ninth as a coach for the Kenyon football program and is his fourth as the Owls head coach.
Good was hired at Kenyon as an assistant in 2017. Two years later, he took over as the team's defensive coordinator while assisting in coaching the team’s linebackers. By the end of the season, he had tutored linebackers Michael Picone and Sam Dickey to top-five ranks in the NCAC in tackles per game. Dickey later went on to play professionally overseas.
Following the 2021 season, Good was hired as the head coach of the Kenyon program. During his first season in command, the Owls posted a 3-7 record and were just eight points shy of making that a 5-5 record. The team's offense was the catalyst, averaging 444 yards per game. That output was the third best in program history. Six players from that 2022 team earned all-conference honors.
In 2023, Good's squad posted a 2-8 overall record that included a pair of wins over NCAC opponents. The Owls had six All-NCAC representatives for the second straight season, with awardees coming from offense, defense, and special teams. Kenyon's rushing game was the team's calling card, and the squad's 19 rushing touchdowns were the fifth most in a single season for the program.
Last season, Good and the Owls made huge strides, turning in a 5-5 record -- the program's first .500 or better season since 2012. Defense took center stage, yielding 2,855 yards to opponents. That was the program's lowest mark since 1986. Included in that number was 1,850 passing yards, the program's lowest mark over the past 25 seasons. Four members of the team, all part of the defensive side, were named to the all-conference team.
Prior to coming to Kenyon, Good spent nearly a year at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. There, he helped coach linebackers and mentored a pair of All-GLIAC performers. Leading up to that post, he worked at Kalamazoo College from fall 2014 to the summer of 2016.
His duties with the Hornets included working with the team’s defensive line, serving as the team’s social media coordinator and director of summer camps. Outside of his collegiate coaching work, Good served as advisor to the head coach and talent scout of the West Michigan Ironmen, a team in the American Indoor Football League.
Good graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and business. He later earned his master’s in sport management from Western Michigan University in 2015. Additionally, he's married to former Owls women's lacrosse coach, Jess Good.
