Duane Gomez has coached the Kenyon College cross country teams since 1983 and the track and field programs since the 2001-02 academic year. Throughout his coaching career, Gomez's teams have been known for their marked improvement and for both outstanding team and individual successes.

In his time, Gomez has coached a total of 176 All-NCAC cross country performers. 

For his teams' performances on the cross country trail, Gomez has been voted the North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year eight times (four with the women's program, four with the men's). Most recently, he earned the conference honor for his work with Kenyon's 2008 women's team, which won the conference championship. Additionally, Gomez has collected several NCAA Division III Ohio Coach of the Year awards.

Throughout his time with the cross country programs, Gomez directed the men's and women's teams to a combined total of seven North Coast Athletic Conference titles (four with the men's program, three with the women's). Between the men’s and women’s programs, he has coached a total of eight NCAC Runners of the Year.

In his Kenyon career, Gomez has coached over a dozen All-American athletes who have combined to collect 20 national honors in cross country and track combined. Gomez has also watched as 47 Lords student-athletes garner All-NCAC Indoor and Outdoor Track accolades along with 97 Ladies. 

Gomez, a graduate of nearby Mount Vernon Nazarene University, is an avid distance runner. He has competed in 13 marathons including the Boston Marathon. He was a college All-American, as well as a NLCAA national champion in cross country. Gomez also competed with the Ohio Striders Track Club for several years and in 2010 he completed his first ultrathon, the "Forget the PR Mohican 50k." In June of 2015 he completed the Mohican 50-Mile Trail Race.
