GAMBIER, Ohio – Two familiar North Coast Athletic Conference foes engaged in a feisty affair Tuesday afternoon on Mavec Field. The Kenyon College men's soccer team used goals from freshman
Alex Christoff and senior
J.J. Jemison to hand the College of Wooster a 2-0 loss that kept the Fighting Scots winless against NCAC opponents this season.
The spirited contest saw the Lords control the pace of play in the first half with a 14-4 advantage in shots. Wooster goalie Matthew Canter kept his team in the game with six of his nine saves, but couldn't get his hands on Christoff's header in the 35th minute. Christoff finished off a cross from sophomore
Grant Carney for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 Kenyon lead.
Things evened out after halftime with the Fighting Scots (3-10-1, 0-5-1 NCAC) attempting eight shots to the Lords' nine. Senior goalie
James Smith didn't bat an eye under the increased pressure and finished with three saves and his conference-leading eighth shutout.
Kenyon (7-5-2, 3-1-2 NCAC) added an insurance goal in the 75th minute when junior
Andrew Parmelee hit Jemison in stride on a breakaway opportunity. Jemison slipped the ball into the lower left corner of the net, upping his team-high totals to five goals and 12 points on the year.
With only three games remaining in the regular season, the Lords – winners of three of their past four games – will continue their push for a postseason berth Saturday at Wabash College. Kenyon tangles with the Little Giants (3-11-0, 1-4-0 NCAC) at 2 p.m.
