Box Score
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's basketball team held visiting Case Western Reserve University scoreless for the final 5:28 Saturday as part of a 13-0 run that gave the Ladies a thrilling, 55-52 come-from-behind victory. In Kenyon's first home game of the season, junior
Maureen Hirt completed the improbable rally by hitting four free throws over the final two minutes of action.
Before Hirt iced the game at the charity stripe, the Ladies relied on their three-point shooting to close a ten-point gap. Trailing 52-42 with 5:07 left, senior
Katie Adlam dialed long distance and junior
Maggie Boelter followed with a three-ball of her own on Kenyon's very next possession. The score then sat at 52-48 for about 90 seconds before Boelter tripled again to make it a one-point game.
The Ladies (3-1) struggled to find their shooting strokes from the floor with a 17-of-57 (29.8 percent) effort, but Boelter was immune to the slump. She connected on 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) of her three-point attempts to post a career-high 15 points.
Boelter was one of the four Ladies that accounted for all 55 points. Senior
Kayla Ernst set the pace with 18 points and ten rebounds in her first double-double of the season. Adlam did a little of everything with 13 points, seven assists, six steals and five rebounds. Hirt tallied nine points and pulled down eight caroms on the glass.
The Spartans (23-56, 41.1 percent) shot the ball much better from the field, but Kenyon negated the advantage with its accuracy at the charity stripe. The Ladies sank 14-of-16 (87.5 percent) free throws while Case (3-1) only went 1-for-3 (33.3 percent) from the line in a crucial 11-point swing.
Kenyon will return to Tomsich Arena Monday night to welcome in its Knox County neighbor, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, at 7:30 p.m.
