TIFFIN, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's basketball team trailed for all of 23 seconds in a 64-56 non-conference victory at Heidelberg University Thursday night. Momentarily yielding the lead proved beneficial to the Ladies, though, as they then went on a key run that helped secure the win.

Kenyon outscored Heidelberg, 7-2, over the first 4:37 only to see an eight-minute drought follow. The Ladies' defense continued to make things difficult while the offense was silent, but Heidelberg scratched together enough buckets to gain an 8-7 advantage with 7:52 to play.

Junior Maureen Hirt got the scoring going again the next trip up the floor with a jumper that began a 17-6 spurt for Kenyon. Hirt scored ten of her game-high 21 points during the surge, which gave the Ladies a 27-14 lead at halftime.

Kenyon grew the lead to as many as 17 points in the second half. While Heidelberg (3-1) pulled within eight on three separate occasions, the gap didn't shrink to single digits for good until the final two minutes of play.

In addition to Hirt's performance, senior Katie Adlam was once again rock solid for Kenyon. While playing all 40 minutes, Adlam scored 14 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting performance. She also narrowly missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. Fellow senior Kayla Ernst also flirted with a double-double before finishing with 15 points and eight boards.

The Ladies (5-1) will wrap up a stretch of five games in 12 days Saturday afternoon when they visit Muskingum University at 3 p.m.
