MEADVILLE, Pa. (October 15, 2011) An aggressive approach at Allegheny College Saturday evening allowed the Kenyon College men's soccer team to fire 13 shots at the Gator goal. The Lords were left with nothing to show for it, though, as the two teams played to a scoreless draw in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
There wasn't a great discrepancy in the number of shots Kenyon and Allegheny (10-3-1, 3-1-1 NCAC) racked up, with the Lords owning a slim two-shot advantage. The difference was in the accuracy of those attempts. Kenyon (5-7-2, 2-3-1 NCAC) put nine shots on target, while only one of the Gators' ended up on goal.
Allegheny goalie John Lichina turned back all nine shots sent his direction to preserve the shutout. With the Lords' stout defense consistently forcing the Gators wide of the mark, senior Tyler Schatz saved the only shot ticketed for the net to notch his second shutout of the season.
Kenyon now gets a break for a week before returning home to host Wittenberg University next Saturday at 3 p.m.
