Defenses dominate in scoreless duel at DePauw

Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Kenyon College and DePauw University defenses were in top form Saturday in North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Lords and Tigers combined for a paltry 12 shots over 110 minutes before ending in a 0-0 tie.

Kenyon's defense was particular dominant in regulation, yielding only one shot attempt to DePauw (6-1-3, 1-1-1 NCAC). The Tigers picked up the pace with four shots in the two overtimes, but senior goalkeeper James Smith made a pair of saves for his fifth shutout. In nine starts, Smith now boasts a sparking 0.42 goals against average which leads the NCAC and ranks in the top 20 nationally.

Conversely, the Lords (4-4-2, 0-0-2 NCAC) fired six of their seven shots in the first two periods. Only one tested Tony Halterman, who answered the call late in the second half to keep the game scoreless.

In its first two conference contests of the season, Kenyon has settled for 0-0 draws. The Lords will try and get in the win column and on the scoreboard against an NCAC foe next Saturday night at Oberlin College.
