WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's basketball team rang in 2013 with a lock-down defensive performance Wednesday night at the College of Wooster. The Ladies held the Fighting Scots to nine total field goals, including two in the second half, while waltzing to a 62-36 North Coast Athletic Conference win on the road.
The 17-percent (9-53) performance Wooster turned in from the floor marked the lowest field-goal percentage in team history. The Scots' previous low came against Kenyon in the 2005-06 season when the Ladies limited Wooster to a 19-percent (8-42) effort in a 59-30 victory.
Led by senior
Kayla Ernst Kenyon's offense had no problem piling up points. Ernst posted a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, which gave her as many field goals as Wooster (6-6, 1-2 NCAC) had as a team.
With the 26-point margin of victory, 12 Ladies saw time on the court. Eleven ended up in the scoring ledger and the balanced scoring output left Ernst as the only player in double-digits. Junior
Maggie Boelter turned in a well-rounded night with nine points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Junior
Maureen Hirt checked out with eight points to her credit.
The Ladies (9-3 overall), now 3-0 in NCAC action, will play two more conference contests this weekend beginning with a 7:30 p.m. showdown against rival Denison University Friday night inside Tomsich Arena.
