GREENCASTLE, Ind. – A slow start stalled the Kenyon College women's basketball team's chances Wednesday night against the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division III. The Ladies held DePauw University to a season-low output, but couldn't get any early traction with their offense in a 57-47 loss, their first in North Coast Athletic Conference action this season.
Under the weight of some stingy defensive play, the scoring was sluggish on both sides out of the gate. With a 15-10 lead and 9:14 left in the opening half, the Tigers hit their stride and scored on three-straight possessions. The run extended all the way to halftime and ended in a 31-15 advantage for DePauw at the break.
Kenyon improved in the second half but, despite outscoring the Tigers, 32-26, couldn't put much of a dent into the deficit. The Ladies still trailed by 16 with 5:50 to go and never got closer than ten points.
Senior
Kayla Ernst led the Ladies with a 16-point, six-rebound performance. Sophomore
Lauren Kriete added a career-high 15 points to the Kenyon ledger and junior
Maureen Hirt tossed in 11. Four DePauw players reached double digits but none had more than 13 points.
