BEXLEY, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's soccer team managed 11 shots in Wednesday's non-conference soccer game at Capital University. Unfortunately for the Ladies, none of those shots crossed the goal line and the host Crusaders went on to a 2-0 victory.
The game marked the end of the Ladies' 2013 non-conference schedule. They'll now try to regroup and prepare for a string of seven consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference games beginning with Saturday's contest at Allegheny College.
Capital found itself under fire in the first half, as Kenyon uncorked nine shots. All but two of those shots were on goal and saved by goalkeeper Maggie Donnellan, who ended up playing 85 minutes and made nine saves.
A little more than eight minutes into the second half, Capital reversed the trend and produced the game's first goal. Hilary Ells was able to sneak her shot past Kenyon goalkeeper
Alissa Poolpol, who subbed in for starter
Lauren Wolfe at the break. Wolfe made four saves in the first half, while Poolpol made five in the second.
That was the only goal the Crusaders would need, but they added one more with a penalty kick conversion by Maura Fortino at the 61:38 mark.
Kenyon's best chance at avoiding the shutout occurred about five minutes after that second Capital goal. That's when
Sarabeth Domal's shot got by Donnellan, but hit the crossbar.
Capital improved to 7-2-1 with the win, while the Ladies fell to 2-7-1.
