Box Score
HIRAM, Ohio – Up and down the final box score the numbers showed two very evenly matched team. It comes as no surprise then that Saturday's women's soccer match between Kenyon College and Hiram College ended in a 1-1 draw. The Ladies are now 4-9-2 overall and possess a 2-3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference mark.
It did not take long for the Ladies to mark up the scoreboard. Kenyon took an early 1-0 lead when Madi Kim scored her first goal of the season, set up by Becca Romaine. Kim gave the Ladies its lead just 2:17 into the match, a lead which they held for nearly more 70 minutes before Hiram evened the score.
After being held to three shot attempts in the first half, Hiram amped up their attack with seven shots in the second. It was the Terrier's fifth shot that hurt Kenyon most when Abbey Rowe beat Lauren Wolfe for her third goal of the season to make for a level score.
Wolfe made five saves through regulation but when the time came for overtime to begin, Alissa Poolpol received the nod to defend the cage. Hiram took three shots through both overtime sessions and Poolpol answered the call by making a save on her lone opportunity to keep the score tied at one.
Kenyon held a slight edge in the shot count, 14-13, and each team took away six corner kick opportunities. Despite it all neither team could pull away for the win, leading to a draw.
The Ladies have two matches left in the regular season, both against NCAC teams. Both matches are at home and are must-wins for a chance at a trip to the NCAC Tournament. The top four teams advance to the tournament. Kenyon is still alive, and currently rests in sixth place. They will host Ohio Wesleyan University on Oct. 29 and kick off action at 4 p.m. November 2 marks the end of the regular season with a matchup against Oberlin College.
