GAMBIER, Ohio  – The Kenyon College women's basketball team brought a tough opponent into its' own house for their home opener, Tuesday night. Nationally-ranked Ohio Northern University issued the Ladies their second loss on the young season, 79-55, at Tomsich Arena. Kenyon created many second-chance opportunities by owning the offensive glass but faltered on the shooting end by hitting just 31 percent of its shot attempts.

Autumn Anderson led the Ladies with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, with all her work being done from under the basket. As a team, the Ladies went just 28-of-55 from the field resulting in a 31.8 percent shooting mark. From beyond the arc, their percentage dropped to just 16.7 percent. The Ladies' go-to scoring threat, Maureen Hirt, ended the night with just 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting. She had come into the contest averaging 25.5 points per game.

Despite the final result, the Ladies overcame 10 first-half turnovers that resulted in 11 ONU points. With 5:26 remaining the Polar Bears led by as many as 15 points before the Ladies fought back with 11-0 run to close out the first half. Freshmen Miranda Diesz and Sidney Cera each hit jumpers to spark the run. Diesz then pulled down a big offensive rebound on a miss by ONU's Carly Thomas and kicked it out to senior Maggie Boelter for a three-ball to cut the lead to six. Autumn Anderson then came back on Kenyon's final offensive possession of the half and drove to the bucket and laid up another two points to cut the Polar Bear's lead to just four points going into the half.

Kenyon (1-2) continued to battle, but its shooting performance in the second half let them down while ONU poured it on. With the Ladies down 50-44, Ohio Northern went on a 12-2 run over the next 5:21 of game time to separate them once and for all. Kenyon missed six of its next seven shot attempts and committed two turnovers which allowed the visitors the advantage. In turn, ONU went 5-of-7 from the field. Becca Saine began the run by hitting a three pointer and then created her own fastbreak opportunity via a steal, which lead to a successful three-point play when she was fouled while converting a layup.

Ohio Northern (3-0) built its lead to 16 points and had no less than a 14-point lead for the duration of the contest.

The Polar Bears controlled the painted area on the offensive end, scoring 34 of its 79 points in the post. Kenyon actually out-rebounded Ohio Northern by a slim 38-37 margin, but owned the offensive glass by collecting 17 offensive boards which were turned into 17 second-chance points.
