GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior Maureen Hirt led the way and a couple of freshmen teammates followed as the Kenyon College women's basketball team throttled the visiting Hiram College Terriers, 91-61, in Saturday afternoon's North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Tomsich Arena.

Hirt poured in 17 of her game-high 22 points in the first half. She played just 12 of the game's first 20 minutes and still managed to go 6-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-4 from three-point land, and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. As if that weren't enough, Hirt's first-half stat line also included four assists, two rebounds, and two steals. She's now scored 20 or more points in four straight games and leads the entire conference with a scoring average of 21.3 points per game.

Hirt's 22 points also bumped her career total to 1,490. With the majority of her senior season still left, Hirt already ranks fourth among Kenyon's all-time scoring leaders. Recent graduate Kayla Ernst ranks third with 1,520 points, just 30 ahead of Hirt.

After that impressive first half, Hirt watched freshmen Sidney Cera and Miranda Diesz pick up where she left off. Both posted a career-best 13 points. Cera also had four assists and three rebounds, while Diesz was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line and grabbed three more boards.

That trio certainly set the pace for the Kenyon offense, which ended up shooting 50.8 percent (30-of-59) for the game, including a stellar 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from long range. Hiram, on the other hand, could not solve the Ladies defense and shot just 32.3 percent (20-of-62) for the game and a forgettable 19 percent (4-of-21) from three-point range.

Hiram (1-6, 0-2 NCAC) tied the game at two and at four, but after Hirt sank her second bucket of the game the Ladies moved ahead 6-4 and never relinquished the lead. They went ahead by as many as 27 points in the first half before taking a 54-30 lead into intermission. Early in the second half, the Kenyon lead grew to as many as 34 points, before head coach Suzanne Helfant started summoning reserves from the bench.

In all, 15 players logged game time for the Ladies (5-3, 1-0 NCAC) and all but one of those players scored at least one point. No matter who took the floor, the Ladies did an excellent job of working the ball down low to create open shots on the perimeter. The team's 23 assists were a season-high and the most since the Ladies rang up that same number against Hiram in a January game from last season.
