GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Kenyon College women's basketball team was all business Friday night as it blitzed the Allegheny College Gators, 80-50, in the semifinal round of the North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament. The win was the Ladies' sixth straight and put Kenyon into the conference's championship game for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

The Ladies didn't waste any time in putting the game away. They shot a remarkable 73.9 percent (17-of-23) in the first half and finished with a 63.3 shooting percentage (31-of-49), which was a new single-game record for the program.

With an early 13-12 edge, the Ladies kicked things into high gear and pulled away from the Gators. Junior Maureen Hirt snapped off two straight three-pointers and sparked a 16-0 Kenyon run that spanned roughly six minutes. Meanwhile, the Kenyon defense held Allegheny without a field goal for more than seven minutes. That mix resulted in a rather comfortable 45-19 halftime lead for Kenyon.

Hirt ended up going 4-of-7 from long range and rang up a game-high 24 points. Senior post Kayla Ernst added another 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and set the program's record for most points in a single season. Her current total of 535 points surpassed the old Kenyon record of 522 points set by Kim Graf in the 1996-97 season. Ernst also improved her career total to 1,505 points and became just the third women in the College's history to score 1,500 points or more.

Two other Kenyon starters also posted double-digit scoring totals. Junior Maggie Boelter was 6-of-9 and tied her personal season-high of 15 points. Additionally, Boelter dished out ten assists to record her first collegiate double-double. Her current season total of 119 assists ranks third-best, all-time at Kenyon. Boelter's backcourt mate, senior Katie Adlam, added 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Allegheny made a little bit of a run at the Ladies early in the second half, but they never got closer than 19 points for the remainder of the game. The huge lead allowed the Ladies to rest their starters a few extra minutes before they head into tomorrow's championship game, which will be hosted by DePauw University and will tip-off at 7 p.m. The Ladies opponent will be the winner of the DePauw vs. Wittenberg University semifinal contest that began at 8 p.m. Friday.
