GRANVILLE, Ohio –
Becca Romaine lifted Kenyon College to a 1-0 win over Denison University Tuesday night at rain-soaked Deeds Field in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer match.
The Ladies have won four-of-their-last-five matches and remain unbeaten (4-0) in conference play. The last time Kenyon won four straight NCAC matches was during the 2006 season between October 18-28.
Romaine's team-leading 10th goal of the year came in the 66th minute when she fired from about 27 yards and watched as her shot tipped off Big Red keeper Jenny Herold's hands into the left corner of the net.
In the first half, Denison was the aggressor as it out-shot Kenyon 7-3.
Three different Big Red players got shots off on goal but all three were saved by Ladies goalie
Alissa Poolpol.
Maggie Smith's attempt in the eighth minute was nearly perfect but hit off the post in the only scoring chance for Kenyon.
Poolpol would hold her ground again in the second half stopping all three attempts by Denison, including a pair in the first 10 minutes. It was her fourth shutout of the season.
Denison took more shots (12-7) and corner kicks (2-1) than Kenyon in the match.
The Ladies will next travel to Wittenberg University October 22 for a 7 p.m. match.
Becca Romaine scored her third game-winning goal of the season Tuesday night at Denison.
