SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Maybe it's the turf or just the Tigers, but the Kenyon College women's soccer team can't seem to garner a win at Wittenberg. Wednesday night at Edwards-Maurer Field, the Ladies fell to the host Tigers, 1-0, on a goal that rolled over the Kenyon goal line in the game's 75th minute.
The loss for the Ladies (7-7-1, 4-1-0 NCAC) was their first North Coast Athletic Conference loss of the year. It also ended a three-game win streak and extended the Ladies' losing streak at Wittenberg to six games. The last time the Kenyon women left Springfield with a win was in the 2004 season.
On the other side of the field, Wittenberg (7-5-1, 3-2-0 NCAC) has now won four of its last five games and is making a bid to figure into the NCAC playoff picture.
The game's lone goal was scored by Chelsey Marcum. Her teammate, Kate Burns, got by Kenyon keeper
Alissa Poolpol and passed over to Marcum for the wide-open shot. The goal was Marcum's third of the season.
Kenyon actually held a slim 16-14 lead in shots, but Wittenberg had the 6-3 edge in corners and, most importantly, the upper hand on the scoreboard.
The Ladies will try to get back in the win column Saturday when they host the Hiram College Terriers at Mavec Field beginning at 1 p.m.
