CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 16 (NSCA) Wabash College men's soccer team halted No. 2 Kenyon College's 12-match unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win over the Lords Saturday afternoon at Mud Hollow Stadium in a North Coast Athletic Conference match.
Wabash's win stopped Kenyon's best start to a season since the 1990 Lords won their first 19 matches.
The Little Giants needed just one goal to down the Lords and they got it in the second half.
In the 70th minute, Steven Magura sent in a corner kick that was headed by Stojan Krsteski near the right post.
The Lords look primed to jump out to an early lead in the first half as
Tony Amolo and
Josh Lee each had attempts on goal in the fourth and 12th minutes, respectively, but both were saved by Wabash's Dayton Jennings.
Sam Clougher was able to do his part in the first half saving two shots.
After Krsteski's goal in the second half, the Lords had two more chances after that but neither attempt from
Jeremiah Barnes and
Nate Petrou found the back of the net.
Kenyon's offense took its second-fewest shots on-goal this season with five attempts.
Clougher recorded five saves in defeat while Petrou had a team-high two shots on-goal.
The Lords will look to bounce back October 21 when they host rival Ohio Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. Live video and statistics will be offered.
Kenyon fell for the first time this season, a 1-0 loss at Wabash. The Lords next play Ohio Wesleyan Oct. 21 at home.
