GAMBIER, Ohio – No. 5 Kenyon College battled rival Ohio Wesleyan University to a 0-0 double-overtime draw Tuesday afternoon at Mavec Field in a North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer match.
In one of the more physical matches for the Lords this season, there were 25 combined fouls and five yellow cards drawn.
In the first half, each team had good looks to get on the scoreboard.
Jordan Glassman's shot in the 22nd minute was Kenyon's lone on-goal attempt but it was saved by OWU's Colin Beemiller. Brian Schaefer, the Battling Bishops' leading scorer, nearly scored in the 31st minute when he rocketed a shot that cleared off the left post.
The second half brought more of the same. Beemiller stopped
Rei Mitsuyama's attempt in the 53rd minute, Kenyon's only shot on goal in the second half.
Ohio Wesleyan tested
Sam Clougher in the 88th minute as Colton Bloecher and Taylor Rieger each had on-goal attempts, but the Lords keeper defended both.
The two overtime sessions yielded just one shot on goal coming to OWU's Rieger in the 94th minute.
Kenyon out-shot Ohio Wesleyan 11-9 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lords will return to action October 25 when they host Hiram College at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.
