GAMBIER, Ohio –
Josh Lee delivered the game-winning goal off a corner from
Jeremiah Barnes in the 71st minute to lift No. 2 Kenyon College to a 1-0 win over Allegheny College Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field in a North Coast Athletic Conference soccer match.
The 10-0 record to start the 2014 campaign is Kenyon's best since 1990 when the team won every single regular-season match (18-0).
Kenyon appeared primed to jump out on top within the first two minutes of the match as Barnes and
Jordan Glassman each had on-goal opportunities. Both of their shots, however, were saved by Allegheny's Jake Pugliese.
Pugliese saved five shots for the Gators in the first half.
Kenyon out-shot Allegheny 11-1 in the first half but the two teams went to halftime tied 0-0.
In the 60th minute, Tolossa Hassan fired what was the Gators' only shot on-goal during the contest. Lords goalie
Sam Clougher was there to deny the attempt.
For Clougher, it was his seventh shutout of the season.
Eleven minutes later, Lee scored his third goal of the year to give the Lords all the scoring they needed.
Kenyon held advantages in shots (17-2) and corners (8-1).
Next up for the second-ranked team is an NCAC match versus the College of Wooster Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at Mavec Field.
Josh Lee's goal in the 71st minute lifted No. 2 Kenyon to a 1-0 NCAC win over Allegheny Saturday afternoon.
