Muskingum rallies past Kenyon in overtime, 76-70

GAMBIER, Ohio – Muskingum University (1-3) rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half to knock off Kenyon College (1-3) in overtime by a score of 76-70 Friday night in a non-conference women's basketball game at Tomsich Arena.

The Fighting Muskies were led by Mallory Taylor who scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds, collected three steals, and dished out a pair of assists. Angela Darnley added 16 points, eight rebounds, and handed out a team-high six assists. Jasmine Goings and Olivia Besancon scored 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Sidney Cera led the Ladies with a season-high 15 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. She added three steals as well. Griffin Tulliss came off the bench to reach double-figure scoring with 13 points.

Muskingum jumped out to an 11-3 lead three-and-a-half minutes into the contest after a Taylor jumper. But Kenyon responded with an 11-2 run and tied the game at 13 after a Molly Rubin layup with 12:45 left in the half. Cera gave the Ladies a slim two-point advantage (17-15) about seven minutes later and the home team held that advantage to halftime as they took a 26-22 lead into the break.

In the second half, Kenyon had 12-point leads after an Avery Anderson jumper with 10 minutes left (45-33) and two Cera free throws (51-39) with 6:23 remaining.

Then Muskingum rallied.

The Fighting Muskies reeled off 12 straight points and tied the game at 51 with just over four minutes remaining to give the visitors new life. Kenyon aided that run with four turnovers.

After the 51-all tie, both teams had small leads but Darnley's free throw with 1:14 remaining put Muskingum up five, 61-56. But just like their counterpart, Kenyon responded.

An Anderson layup followed by a corner three-pointer from Bailey Dominguez tied the game at 61 and sent it to overtime.

In overtime, Dominguez buried another three-point shot to tie the contest at 68, but after that, the Fighting Muskies took control. Taylor followed with a shot from long range to put MU up 71-68. They eventually prevailed 76-70.

Muskingum had a nice night at the charity stripe as they hit 80% (20-of-25). They also held a 15-9 second-chance points advantage. Kenyon's bench was superb outscoring Muskingum's 34-10.

The Ladies' next game comes November 22 at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
