GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College senior
Sarah Hobbs and sophomore
Bailey Dominguez both netted career-high point totals Tuesday night and led the Ladies basketball team to a 51-47 non-conference win over the visiting Case Western Reserve University Spartans.
Hobbs, who had a previous best of 13 points, scored 16 against Case. She was 7-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. She also tied fellow guard
Sidney Cera for a team-best six rebounds.
Dominguez's best output as a freshman last season was six points. In her last four games as a sophomore, she scored 8, 8, 9, and 14 points, respectively. Her 14 points against Case came on 6-of-12 shooting.
Hobbs pumped in the Ladies' first field goal of the night and then added a three-pointer with 11:43 showing on the clock. That three-ball broke a 7-7 tie and put Kenyon in front for the remainder of the first half. The Ladies created a bit of separation with a 10-1 run that saw their lead balloon to 22-11 with 7:33 left in the half. During the run, Hobbs and
Miranda Diesz scored three points, and both Cera and Dominguez chipped in with two.
The Ladies (2-4) came out of the break with a six-point lead and extended it back out to 11 points three different times during the second half's first ten minutes of play. Case Western Reserve (2-2) then made a run of its own. Over the next four minutes, the Spartans went on a 13-2 tear that tied the game up at 42-42 with a little more than five minutes remaining. A trio of three-pointers from three different players fueled the run.
Down the stretch, Kenyon held its composure and the lead. Dominguez and Hobbs scored again to give the Ladies a four-point cushion. Case later closed to within one point, but a clutch three-pointer from Dominguez and two free throws from Cera sealed the win for the Ladies.
In addition to grabbing six rebounds, Cera scored six points and had five steals.
The Ladies now face an extended break over the holiday and will play next on December 6 at Hiram College.
