MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Kenyon College Ladies commandeered the driver's seat Saturday and found the right gear to pull out an 89-81 victory over the host Allegheny College Gators in what was a fast-paced, physical North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball game at the Wise Center Performance Arena.

Through all the bumps, bruises, and combined 44 personal fouls, the win was huge for Kenyon (11-7, 6-4 NCAC), which completed the season sweep of Allegheny (12-7, 6-4 NCAC) and temporarily pulled into a third-place tie in the conference standings with the Gators and the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Back in early December, it was senior guard Maggie Boelter who broke down the Gators' press and led the Ladies to a 78-63 win in Gambier. Saturday, Boelter fell victim to foul trouble, but still managed 11 points and three assists before exiting the game. In her absence, freshman Sidney Cera played like a seasoned veteran. She tossed in 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and served up two assists in 14 minutes of work. Both Cera's point and rebound totals were career-highs.

Boelter's and Cera's back-court mate, senior Maureen Hirt, also had a brilliant game. She canned 11-of-16 shots, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and rang up a game-high and season-high 33 points. Hirt also snared 10 rebounds to register her third double-double of the season and was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. She's now 44-of-46 (95.6 percent) from the line since the Ladies last faced Allegheny.

As if that trio weren't enough for the Gators to handle, sophomore guard Meredith Williams also notched a double-double for Kenyon. She scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds. In all, the Ladies' guards accounted for 80 of the team's 89 points.

Before Kenyon could post its impressive numbers, Allegheny opened the game like it was going to dominate. The Gators raced out to early leads of 6-0 and 11-4. Kenyon, however, put together a nice 9-2 run and tied up Allegheny about six minutes into play. The teams traded the lead for a stretch and then Kenyon went ahead for good by tearing off a 17-3 run just before the half. That run was fueled by four points apiece from Williams, Cera, and Shelby Gray, as well as five points from Hirt.

Kenyon got to the break with a 15-point lead and inflated it to 19 points early in the second half, but Allegheny's Rachel Vigliotti and Emma Pellicano were not going to let the Ladies run away with it. Vigliotti scored 13 second-half points and Pellicano added 11 as the Gators clawed their way back into things and pulled with one point (82-81) with just over two minutes left in the game.

During those last two minutes, Kenyon slammed the door by converting 7-of-8 free throws, including six straight from Hirt.
