Ladies topple Denison to snap six-game skid

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College used a barrage of timely three-point shots and forced a handful of turnovers to snap a six-game losing streak in its 61-52 win over Denison University Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

Bailey Dominguez scored a season-high 16 points to lead the Ladies. The sophomore from Indianapolis hit 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Avery Anderson added 11 points including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Sidney Cera and Lauren Kriete each tallied nine points to round out Kenyon's top scorers.

The Ladies shot a season-best 55.6% from three-point range and forced 23 Denison turnovers that were converted into 16 points.

Denison was led by Jordan Holmes who scored 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked six shots. Kellie Arter, the team's leading scorer, tallied 13 points as well. Gabrielle Nottage chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, and two assists.

The Big Red jumped out to a 7-2 lead a little over six minutes into the first half after an Akilah Fletcher jumper.

But the Ladies responded with a seven-point run of their own to take a 9-7 lead after a Dominguez three with 11:42 left in the half.

Both teams tussled with each other over the next six minutes before Kenyon took control. With the score tied at 18 after a pair of Arter free throws, the Ladies closed the first half with a 14-4 run.
Anderson scored six points and Miranda Diesz hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Ladies a 32-22 halftime advantage.

The Ladies hit 5-of-8 from deep and were near perfect from the free throw line (9-10) at the end of the first half.

Showing some grit in the second half, Kenyon never allowed Denison to get within four points the remainder of the game.

Kenyon continued its season-best three-point shooting hitting 5-of-10 in the second half including a big one from Kriete with 1:45 left to ice the game.

The Ladies return to action January 17 when they travel to College of Wooster for a 2 p.m. game.
