WOOSTER, Ohio – Ten of eleven Ladies scored two points or more Saturday as the Kenyon College women's basketball team turned in a season-best shooting percentage during a 65-52 triumph over The College of Wooster Fighting Scots in a North Coast Athletic Conference game held at Timken Gymnasium.
Kenyon connected on 24-of-55 shots overall (43.6 percent), drained 8-of-20 three-pointers (40.0 percent) and was 9-of-15 at the free throw line (60.0 percent). Prior to this game, the Ladies' overall shooting percentage for the season was 33.1 percent.
Freshman
Griffin Tullis led way for the Ladies as she scored 11 points, just two shy of her season best. Sophomore
Bailey Dominguez added ten points and classmate
Miranda Diesz knocked down 3-of-4 attempts from long range to post a season-high nine points. Seniors
Lauren Kriete and
Sarah Hobbs each chipped in with seven points. Kriete also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and was followed up by
Avery Anderson, who snared six boards and scored six points.
The Ladies (5-10, 3-4 NCAC) trailed for only one minute of this contest. They opened with a three-pointer from Hobbs, but Wooster went on a brief 7-2 spurt to go ahead 7-5. Right around the 16-minute mark, Anderson converted a layup that tied things up at 7-7. After a Wooster turnover, Diesz popped in her first three-pointer of the game and the Ladies never looked back.
Kenyon's lead ballooned to as many as 13 points in the first half and the Ladies went into intermission with a 28-21 advantage.
Wooster (1-15, 0-7 NCAC) did manage to make the game a bit more interesting in the second half. Following three separate runs, the Fighting Scots pulled within three points of Kenyon. The last of those three runs ended with a Sydney Grier three-pointer that moved the score to 44-41 with nine minutes to play.
Over the next six minutes, the Ladies shifted to a higher gear and outscored Wooster 11-1. During the important run, Tullis took over the game. She scored seven of Kenyon's 11 points and helped seal the deal for the Ladies.
The Kenyon women will now look to capture a third consecutive win Wednesday, when it invites the Wittenberg University Tigers (12-5, 4-3 NCAC) to Tomsich Arena for a 7:30 p.m. conference contest.
