and 8-0 in NCAC play with their 6-0 win at Oberlin on Sunday.OBERLIN, Ohio – Five different Kenyon College field hockey players scored goals Sunday afternoon as the Ladies defeated Oberlin College 6-0 at Knowlton Stadium in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest. The win, Kenyon's ninth in a row, moved their record to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
Â
Senior
Maddie Breschi had a pair of goals and a pair of assists while
Katelyn Hutchinson,
Minke Verweij,
Sam Grunder and
Weezie Foster also tallied a goal.
Â
The opening 10 minutes of the game yielded nothing for Kenyon but that all changed in the 13th minute.
Â
Breschi got Kenyon on the board with her 10th goal of the year as she dribbled from the top arc and ripped a shot from the right side.
Â
About five minutes later, Verweij scored an amazing shot from the right side sending the ball into the top-left corner of the pipes.
Â
Down 2-0, the Yeowomen fired a shot on goal from Maureen Coffey but her attempt in the 22nd minute was denied by Ladies keeper
Sarah Speroff. As it turned out, it was the only on-goal shot for Oberlin in the entire match.
Â
The Ladies added two more goals in the first half as Breschi found Hutchinson in the 27th minute while Foster added Kenyon's fourth score just a little over a minute later.
Â
Known for their great defense, Kenyon completely suffocated the Yeowomen in the second half.
Â
The visitors from Gambier out-shot the home team 11-0 in the final period while adding two more goals.
Â
Those scores came from Breschi in the 44th minute as she finished off a
Hannah Drake penalty corner, and the other was delivered by
Sam Grunder in the 62nd minute as she received her own rebound after her initial shot and fired from just outside the right post.
Â
In the match, Kenyon held a 28-2 shots advantage and a 12-3 lead in penalty corners.
Â
Next up for the Ladies is a home date against Ohio Wesleyan University October 15 at 4:30 p.m. Kenyon won the first matchup earlier in the season 4-0.
