Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lords score one, defense does the rest

GAMBIER, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Kenyon College Lords soccer team toiled Wednesday in the attacking third at Mavec Field and got the lone goal it needed in the second half to post a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) triumph over the Oberlin College Yeomen.

Kenyon outshot Oberlin 23-10, but 13 of the Lords' shots were off target, eight were saved by Oberlin goalkeeper Koryn Kraemer and one was saved by a Yeomen defender. The one shot that Kenyon was able to put in the back of net came off the foot of junior Tony Amolo. In the game's 63rd minute, Amolo broke in from the left side and sophomore Woo Jeon slotted a pass up the middle to meet him. Amolo got to the pass, steered the ball around a charging Kraemer and then booted in the game's lone goal.

The goal was Amolo's 11th of the season, a total that leads the Lords and ties Amolo with Oberlin's John Ingram for the NCAC lead. Amolo has scored one goal or more in eight of Kenyon's 11 games this season. The assist was Jeon's third, giving him nine points in 11 games.

At the other end of the field, Kenyon's junior goalkeeper, Sam Clougher, had to make just two saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. That gives him 30 shutouts for his career and pulls him one step closer to the all-time record of 32 career shutouts set by Marshall Chapin '94.

The victory improved Kenyon's overall record to 10-1-0 and its NCAC record to 3-1-0. Next up for the Lords is a rivalry game against Denison University on Saturday. That battle will take place at Mavec Field beginning at 3:30 pm.

The loss dropped Oberlin to 7-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference competition.
