Sophomore Emma Klug had three shots on Wednesday night but the Ladies couldn't find the
back of the net as they played Oberlin College to a scoreless double-overtime draw in NCAC action.OBERLIN, Ohio – Despite numerous chances throughout the contest, neither Kenyon College (10-5-1, 4-1-1 NCAC) nor Oberlin College found the back of the net in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Fred Shults Field.
Â
In 110 minutes of action, Oberlin (5-6-3, 0-3-2 NCAC) held a slim 15-14 edge in shots while the Ladies attempted one more on-goal attempt (8-7).
Â
Kenyon came right out of the gates poised to gain an early lead as reigning NCAC Player of the Week
Gillian Blackwell and junior
Maggie Smith fired in the second and fifth minutes, respectively. But Yeowmen goalie Jordyn Morris denied both.
Â
Oberlin had its chances between the 17th and 20th minutes with a few shots of its own. After
Alissa Poolpol denied Ellie Huizenga's attempt in the 17th minute, Gwennie Gardiner followed with a header and shot attempt but those chances once again came to Poolpol.
Â
Both teams had a couple more opportunities throughout the rest of the half but nothing came across.
Â
Second-half action started just like the first for the Ladies with two looks on goal.
Brianna Maggard and Blackwell each had looks but once again Morris was waiting.
Â
Oberlin's next-best chance came off the foot of Josie Marshall in the 61st minute. Marshall dribbled and fired to the left post but Poolpol was there for a diving save, one of seven on the night for the senior goalie.
Â
The Yeowomen had one more look on goal with six minutes left in regulation, but Megan Herrmann's header was saved by Poolpol.
Â
In the first overtime,
Virginia Fergusson had a shot-attempt on goal while
Emma Klug found an attempt, but neither rang true. Oberlin's Hannah Cook and Marshall followed with shots of their own but once again, those chances didn't result in a goal.
Â
The second overtime session was nearly ended by Blackwell. With the sophomore about eight yards away from the net, the ball bounced into the box and her shot was just high of the goal. It was Kenyon's last opportunity of the night while Gardiner fired Oberlin's last shot in the 108th minute.
Â
Klug and Blackwell each recorded three shots to lead Kenyon's offense. Next up for the Ladies is a trip to Allegheny College October 24 starting at 1 p.m.
