Senior Alissa Poolpol recorded a season-high eight saves but the Ladies fell 1-0 to the visiting
DePauw University Tigers Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field.GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Ladies soccer team competed all day long but ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 score against DePauw University Saturday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at rainy Mavec Field.

Kenyon (7-5, 1-1 NCAC) held a 19-9 advantage in shots but just couldn't find the goals needed to attain victory.

Leading goal-scorer
Maggie Smith didn't take long to get Kenyon's first attempt off as she fired 23 seconds into the contest.

The Tigers (5-4-1, 2-0 NCAC) followed with on-goal attempts from Elizabeth Seewer and Megann Lear in the 7th and 16th minutes, respectively, but keeper
Alissa Poolpol denied both.

Between the 17th and 23rd minutes, six more shots were attempted by the Ladies including a trio from Smith, but DePauw goalie Riley Riordan came up with three saves to keep the game scoreless.

Riordan added two more saves the rest of the half after shots from
Claudia Brown and
Virginia Fergusson.

Second-period action got underway and Kenyon looked primed to take a 1-0 lead as Smith fired from the right side but her shot deflected off the right post.

DePauw followed with four on-goal attempts starting at the 54th minute from Seewer but all the attempts from the Tigers were saved by Poolpol.

Following a free kick from
Marie Laube in the 66th minute that just missed clearing the top crossbar, the Tigers found the only goal of the match.

Lear fired a shot that was deflected away by Poolpol, but the loose ball came to Caroline Zadina who headed it home to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Kenyon had two more shot attempts on goal from Smith and defender
Heather Pacheco but neither found the equalizer to send the match to extra minutes.

The Ladies' next match comes October 10 at the College of Wooster in another NCAC contest.
