Â
Prior to the game, the careers of
Morgen Barroso,
Christine Bloom,
Maddie Breschi,
Hannah Drake and
Emmy Weiner were honored. The group has helped the Kenyon program amass a 56-22 record over the last four seasons.
Â
Unlike the previous matchup with the Yeowomen when the Ladies got off to a slow start, the group from Gambier came right out and set the tone.
Â
Just three minutes in, the Ladies were battling in front of the Yeowomen's cage and were able to earn a penalty shot. It was Breschi who delivered for her team with her 16th goal of the year.
Â
Not even three minutes later, Bloom got in on the scoring. With Breschi shooting from the right side, the ball trickled away from Oberlin goalie Maggie Gossiaux and Bloom cleaned it up for Kenyon's second goal of the game.
Â
The Ladies had a handful of other opportunities to get on the scoreboard but Gossiaux defended well after the early scoring and came up with eight saves during the remainder of the half.
Â
In the second half, Kenyon continued its offensive assault on Oberlin but nine more shots didn't yield any more goals. Gossiaux continued her good play between the pipes in the final half as she notched six more saves.
Â
Oberlin had a couple of looks on goal in the second half as they tried to come back. Taylor Swift and Dillon Sebastian attempted a pair of shots in the 57th and 58th minutes, respectively, but Kenyon goalie
Sarah Speroff stopped both shots.
Â
Those were the only two shots on goal for the Yeowomen during the match. It was Speroff's 11th shutout of the season moving her one away from tying the regular-season record set by Karen Thompson in 2006.
Â
Kenyon's semifinal match against Wittenberg, a team the Ladies have beat by 5-1 and 2-1 scores earlier this season, will begin at 2 p.m.
