Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lords clamp down on Fighting Muskies, 88-65

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College (2-2) limited Muskingum University to just 6-of-35 (17.1%) shooting in the first half to gain an insurmountable lead en route to a dominating 88-65 victory over the Fighting Muskies (3-3) Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's basketball game at Tomsich Arena.

Tim Connolly led the way with a near triple-double as he totaled a game-high 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Fellow senior Brien Comey sparkled as well scoring 23 points and blocking three shots. Coming off the bench to aid in the effort was Chris Link and Ethan Shapiro who each tallied eight points.

As team, the Lords dominated the post area out-rebounding Muskingum 51-38 while scoring 50 of their points in the paint.

First-half action started very slowly for both teams as about eight minutes in neither had reached double-digit point totals. The Lords changed that though at the 12:10 mark following a Link layup that gave the home team an 11-7 lead.

That layup sparked a 17-3 run for the Lords who saw five different players score during the stretch. Kenyon gained a 28-10 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the half. During those eight minutes, the Fighting Muskies went just 1-of-12 from the field with their lone make on a three-pointer from Jalen Paige.

Kenyon closed the first stanza with a 39-17 lead.

In the second half, Muskingum went small to try and shoot its way back into the game. After Kenyon gained a 60-40 lead with 9:59 left, the Fighting Muskies went on an 8-0 run capped off by another Paige three-ball to cut the deficit to 12. That was the closest they got for the rest of the game though.

The Lords went up as many as 29 points in the second half after Shapiro's layup with 56 seconds remaining.

In the game, Kenyon held Muskingum to just 27.9% shooting (19-of-68) and 65 points, its lowest totals of the season.

Next up for the Lords is a trip to Oberlin College (4-2, 0-1 NCAC) for their North Coast Athletic Conference opener on December 2 at 7:30 p.m.
